Transport and Infrastructure

The Campus masterplan is driven by a desire to create a gathering place that is connected into the social and physical fabric of Inverness.

About our location

Inverness Campus is situated at the point where two major trunk roads into the city meet - the A9 from the south and A96 to the east. The main rail route south also runs alongside the eastern border of the Campus.

The land to the west of the Campus includes housing, business and the largest Hospital in the Highlands and Islands, Raigmore Hospital.  Inverness Retail and Business Park, and Stoneyfield Business Park, lie to the north east of the Campus.  At the southern boundary of the site there are existing residential developments and some business space.

The network of paths in and around the Campus will link west to the city centre and provide access for developments to the south and east.

There will be excellent cycle and pedestrian routes both within and linking to the Campus.  It is anticipated there will be eight buses per hour providing a link to the site to city centre and beyond.

Inverness Campus' transport system will be sustainable.  It will feature new bridges, roads and path connections to link the site with the city centre and its suburbs.

A new crossroads junction will join the existing junction between the A9 slip road and Culloden Road.

Widening of Culloden Road will increase traffic capacity on the surrounding local roads. Proposals are also in place to add an extra lane to the slip road exiting the A9 up to the new junction.  A second access/exit point will connect the Campus to Caulfield Road North.

In addition to a pedestrian and cycle bridge linking the campus to Raigmore and the city beyond, a public transport/cycle/pedestrian bridge connecting the Campus with the Inverness Business and Retail Park is  planned for later phases of development at Beechwood, and the potential for rail halt is also being investigated
