The £9.5 million life sciences innovation centre is a partnership project between the University of the Highlands and Islands and Highlands and Islands Enterprise. It was officially opened by HRH the Princess Royal in April 2023.
The 2500m² building provides facilities for small and medium-sized businesses to work collaboratively with academia on innovative life sciences projects. Through the university, access is available to high-tech research equipment and lab conditions for collaborative research.
Through the Institute of Health Research and Innovation, the University of the Highlands and Islands conducts research in the key areas of nanotechnology and rural health.
The centre will also support wider collaboration in research, innovation and commercialisation with the NHS. The new NHS National Treatment Centre- Highland opened in Spring 2023 and specialises in elective care in ophthalmology and orthopaedics.
